New Personality Self-Portrait Text: Why you think, work, love

Character inventories have consistently been a well known point with individuals, as they hold inside them the ability to uncover to us something about our intrinsic selves which we didn’t know previously, and the chance of helping us comprehend ourselves better, and thusly, making us more joyful individuals. As mental information progressed, in the United States character inventories turned into a much-refreshing subject of books, articles and explores as the majority of these tried to misrepresent the effect of independence while making light of the impacts of social and monetary factors on childhood and social conduct. Character tests have regularly been reprimanded character tests and put them on the continuum of soothsaying, fortune-telling and horoscopes, calling their substance similarly nonexclusive and oversimplified in nature with the goal that individuals find in any event something in the tests which has a connection to their life or self, and they overlook the remainder of the substance of the tests which don't have such a connection. Another basic view is that these tests excessively improve character, which characteristically is a perplexing marvel, and that these tests frequently need logical descriptors. The regular tests all contain a progression of irregular inquiries and individual scores are classified dependent on the extremity of reactions created by these inquiries. While these tests keep up that nobody individual can fit totally and completely into one classification, yet the introduction of the character types themselves is, best case scenario, inflexible and profoundly clear cut. In any case, John M. Oldham, a doctor, specialist, scientist, scholarly director and essayist has built up a character test which counters these reactions and rises as one of the more solid appraisal tries out of the different alternatives accessible. Oldham's character test additionally has a stock of inquiries and simply like different tests before it, it allots focuses on answers and uncovers character types dependent on focuses. In any case, it is better than other well known inventories in light of the fact that the character types are not the traditional ones, got from mainstream accord, rather, they depend on mental clinical classes of character issue in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. At that point, Oldham has recognized â€Å"the normal, absolutely human, nonpatholocial variants of the outrageous, scattered constellations† from this manual. He has followed this methodology in light of the fact that as indicated by him, character issue are the â€Å"extremes of ordinary human patterns†, fundamentally, what character includes. Subsequently, the book depends on the reason of characterizing the ordinary character styles, the outrageous variants of which convert into character issue. Pundits of Oldham's book, which is an advancement, have said that while the test works fine, the models Oldham has utilized can be diverting and misdirecting. The circumstances and responses that have been ascribed to these imaginary characters have the danger of not being paid attention to by individuals as their portrayal does not have any social, financial, ecological or moral component, which is the thing that makes characters credible. Another disadvantage of the test is that the legitimacy is totally subject to the reactions of the individual, and there are no adjustment scales, which are available in other normalized character instruments. One of the solid purposes of this test is that the descriptors are short, yet clear in their importance, and taking all things together, figure out how to give exhaustive inclusion of a wide range of characters. By giving a character style-issue continuum, Oldham has perceived that characters are not simply gatherings of character attributes; rather, they exist on a range which ranges from ordinary character styles to their partner character issue. The book is a well known one, and its target group is laypeople and not clinical experts. It gives a straightforward view on character styles and to certain individuals, may seem, by all accounts, to be inadequate with regards to the specialized modernity which all the more thoroughly created and normalized character inventories may contain.

Bgp Problems Solutions Essay Example

Bgp Problems Solutions Paper Besides, the plan and pervasiveness of BGP has baffled past endeavors at making sure about intermediation steering. This paper considers the vulnerabilities as of now existing inside intermediation directing and overviews works identifying with BGP security. The impediments and points of interest of proposed arrangements are investigated, and the foundational and operational ramifications of their structures considered. We note that no present arrangement has yet discovered a satisfactory harmony between far reaching security and sending cost. This work calls not just for the utilization of thoughts portrayed inside this paper, yet additionally tort further examination concerning the issues and answers for BGP security. List Terms validation, approval, BGP, fringe door convention, honesty, intermediation directing, organize security, systems, steering l. I INTRODUCTION The Internet is a worldwide, decentralized system involved numerous littler interconnected systems Networks are to a great extent contained end frameworks, alluded to as hosts, and transitional frameworks, called switches. Data goes through a system on one of numerous ways, which are chosen through a steering procedure. Steering conventions convey decency data (how to find Other hosts and switches) and eventually perform way determination. A system under the regulatory control of a solitary association is called a self-sufficient framework (AS) The way toward steering Within an AS is called antinomian directing, and directing benzene Asses is called intermediation steering. BGP has been conveyed since the centralization of the Internet, and rendition 4 of the convention has been in wide use for longer than 10 years. BGP by and large functions admirably practically speaking, and its effortlessness and strength have empowered it to assume a principal job inside the worldwide Internet [3], in spite of meandering no exhibition or security ensures. Tragically, the restricted assurances gave by BGP here and there add to genuine shakiness and blackouts. While many steering disappointments have constrained effect and degree, others may prompt critical and far reaching harm. One such customized happened on 25 April 1 997, when a confounded switch kept up by a little specialist organization in Florida infused inaccurate steering data into the worldwide Internet and professed to have ideal availability to all Internet goals. Since such proclamations were not approved at all, they were broadly acknowledged. As an August 7, 2008 DRAFT result, most Internet traffic was steered to this little ISP. The traffic overpowered the misjudged and middle of the road switches, and adequately disabled the Internet for right around two hours Several comparable episodes have occurred as of late [51, including a significant blackout brought about by Coned (61 and a blackout for the mainstream Youth website (http://www. Youth. Com/) brought about by Pakistan Telecoms 171. Also, spammed (I. E. Individuals sending spam email) now and then bring bogus data into ESP. to empower them to trade email with mail waterways utilizing unallocated IP delivers that are difficult to follow Introducing bogus data into BGP is additionally a compelling path for an aggressor to sneak around on traffic in transit to a real goal, imitate a Wee site (e. G. , to perform wholesale fraud), or square access to specific destinations [9]. These assau lts and misjudgments can Gauge anything from an irrelevant inconvenience to an overwhelming correspondences disappointment. For instance, basic applications, for example, web based banking, stock exchanging, and supernatural run over the Internet. Critical mischief may emerge if correspondence is lost at a significant time. As the quantity of radical applications on the Internet develops, so will the dependence on the fundamental system foundation to offer solid and secure types of assistance. Therefore, there is incredible enthusiasm for expanding the security of BGP, as it is basically the paste that holds the divergent pieces of the Internet together. For instance, the United States government refers to BGP security as a feature of the national technique to make sure about the internet [10]. Moreover, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has working gatherings concentrating on Routing Protocol Security Requirements [I I] and Secure Intermediation Routing [121 to examine these security issues and fine reasonable arrangements. BGP security is likewise a noticeable point at arrange administrator gatherings and mailing records, for example, the North American Network Operators Group (MANGO) [13]. Momentum investigate on BGP centers around uncovering and settling both operational and security concerns. Operational concerns identifying with BGP, for example, adaptability, intermingling delay (I. E. , the time required for all switches to have a predictable perspective on the system), steering soundness, and execution, have been the subject of much exertion. Thus, a great part of the contemporary security inquire about has concentrated on the respectability, classification, confirmation, approval, and approval of BGP messages. These two fields of operational issues and security inquire about are naturally associated. Victories and customized in every area are intelligent to the two networks. This paper investigates operational practice, norms movement, and progressing research in intermediation steering security, uncovering the likenesses and contrasts in the proposed ways to deal with building a progressively secure Internet foundation. The following area gives a short outline of intermediation directing and BGP. Resulting segments inspect todays security practices and longer-term answers for secure immoderation directing. II. B ORDER G TIDEWAY P ROTATOR The Internet comprises of a huge number of Autonomous Systems (Asses) that utilization the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) to trade data about how to arrive at squares of goal IP addresses (called IP prefixes). BGP is a gradual convention ?a BGP-talking switch sends a declaration message even another course is accessible, and a withdrawal message When a course does not exist anymore. BGP is likewise a way vector convention, where each AS adds its AS number to the start of the AS way before promoting the course to the following AS. Every switch chooses a solitary best BGP course for every goal prefix and may apply complex strategies for choosing a course and choosing August 7, 2008 DRAFT ICANN 12. 0-0. 0/8 202. C. o. A. IP Prefixes and AS Numbers An IP address is a 32-piece number, regularly spoke to in spotted decimal documentation With a different whole number for every one Of the four octets. Addresses are allocated to organizations in squares of adjoining addresses, spoke to by he first location and a veil length. For instance, the prefix 1920. 20/24 contains all tends to where the initial three octets are 192, O, and 2-?the 256 tends to 192. 0-2. 0 to 1920. 2255. Apportioning delivers in squares prompts littler steering tables and less course notices, as most switches need just skill to coordinate traffic toward the square of addresses, instead of putting away separate directing data for each IP address, Since prefixes have variable length, one IP prefix might be totally contained inside another. For instance, a switch may have steering data for two prefixes 211. 120. 0/12 and where the principal prefix totally covers the subsequent one. To conclude how to advance an information parcel, an IP switch recognizes the longest prefix that coordinates the goal IP address. For instance, a bundle with goal IP address would coordinate 211 , 1 20, 1320/22, since this prefix is more explicit than 211. 12000/12. At first, foundations got address assignments straightforwardly from the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), and later from the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). All the more as of late, ICANN assigned this obligation to address libraries answerable for efferent pieces of the world. For instance, the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) deals with the IP address assignments for North America, though the R ; Essex IP Europe ens (RIPE) doles out a great part of the location space for Europe, the Middle East, and North E Africa; the Asia-Pacific Network Information Center (PANIC) relegates IP addresses in Asia and the Pacific Rim, the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Address Registry (LACTIC) conveys address space through the Latin August 7, 2008 DRAFT 12. 34-0. 0/16: AS 3 AS 4 AS 3 12,34. 0. /16: AS 4 AS 2 AS 7 AS 5 AS 2 AS 5 AS 7 12. 4. 0. 0/16: AS 6 12. 34. 0. 0/16: AS 1 ASS 12,34. 0. 0/16: AS 1 AS 6 (a) Regular notice from AS 6, (b) Malicious commercial from AS l. Setting Boundaries With Addicted Grandparents

Setting Boundaries With Addicted Grandparents Addiction Coping and Recovery Print Setting Boundaries With Addicted Grandparents By Elizabeth Hartney, BSc., MSc., MA, PhD Elizabeth Hartney, BSc, MSc, MA, PhD is a psychologist, professor, and Director of the Centre for Health Leadership and Research at Royal Roads University, Canada. Learn about our editorial policy Elizabeth Hartney, BSc., MSc., MA, PhD Updated on June 25, 2019 Track5/Getty Images More in Addiction Coping and Recovery Methods and Support Overcoming Addiction Personal Stories Alcohol Use Addictive Behaviors Drug Use Nicotine Use Times have changed. In the 1970s, 1980s, and even the 1990s, it was not uncommon for parents of young children to smoke and drink alcohol around them. While a few still do, many younger parents choose not to drink or smoke at all, and rightly so. Recognition of the health harms of secondhand smoke on babies and children and awareness of the impact of role modeling on future behavior discourages younger parents from drinking and smoking around their children. But for grandparents who smoked throughout their adult lives, and are now in their 60s, 70s, or older, many feel they do not need to quit. Similarly, many people who drink excessive amounts of alcohol underestimate how much they consume, and do not believe their behavior or their alcohol consumption is problematic. Some believe the risks of smoking and drinking are exaggerated, as they think because they have not been diagnosed with a serious illness, that they are in good health. Hard though it is to understand, even some of those who have been diagnosed with serious illnesses, including conditions directly related to smoking and drinking, refuse to change their behavior concerning these substances. Yet it can be difficult for younger parents to confront their own parents, or even ask them not to drink or smoke around their grandchildren, for fear of offending or angering their parents. The Need for Boundaries Setting boundaries with parents are difficult for the adult children of people with all kinds of addictions. The roles are reversed when you set boundaries around your parents behavior. Setting boundaries around parents smoking are particularly difficult, because smokers cling to their right to smoke while exposing your child to increased risks of smoking themselves, and of the health risks of secondhand and third-hand smoke. Alcohol can be even more problematic  if your parent drinks and becomes intoxicated around your child or children. While past generations may have laughed it off, parents are now more knowledgeable about the impact of drinking on youngsters. Not only may it encourage them to think of drinking as normal and harmless if grandma or grandpa does it, but drunkenness can lead to inappropriate language or behavior, which can lead to a range of outcomes, from embarrassment to abuse. Making excuses for your parents rarely works. Kids can sense their parents discomfort, and it can be difficult to explain away your parents behavior to your children, or even to answer their questions about their grandparents behavior in a way that feels honest and informative. Allowing these behaviors to continue can lead to rifts in the family which, ultimately, could impact your feelings about your children spending time with their grandparents at all. As an adult child, you are no longer obliged to follow your parents instructions or to tolerate their unacceptable behavior. As a parent, you have a responsibility to protect your own children from the harmful effects of smoke and seeing an influential adult, their grandparent, smoking, or drinking alcohol. Therefore, you must set boundaries with your parents smoking in order to protect your child. When to Set Boundaries Before you assert yourself with your parents, It is helpful to get clear on exactly what you find unacceptable, the reasons for this, and what you would like your parents to do instead. There is a big difference between your parent absentmindedly lighting up in front of the grandchildren, or drinking alcohol early in the day, and becoming intoxicated and violent. If either of your parents becomes aggressive, violent or verbally abusive to you or your children, you should withdraw your children from spending any time with them until their behavior changes, or your child becomes an adult. You are neglecting to protect your child if you allow them to be with someone abusive, even if you love that person and believe they should spend time together. Similarly, you should not allow your children to spend time with a grandparent who uses illicit drugs. Doing so exposes your child to the modeling of drug using behavior, making it more likely your child will use drugs him or herself. Children can also be harmed by accidentally or experimentally using drugs themselves, which they may be able to do if they are in an environment where drugs are taken. They can also be hurt or infected by paraphernalia such as lighters and needles. Choosing a Safe Location to Meet You may find that your parent is more respectful of your boundaries in your home than in their own home or in some public places more than others. Choose your meeting locations accordingly, and dont give in to pressure from your parent to come to them, only to have them smoke around you and your child because it is my house, my rules. You may also be able to avoid a confrontation with your parent by selecting places for your children to spend time with your parents, where it will not be easy or even possible for your parents to smoke, drink, or use drugs. There are many public venues which provide entertainment and activities suitable for families, which do not allow smoking or public intoxication, such as shopping malls, libraries, playgrounds, restaurants, and movie theaters. The great advantage of choosing these locations, and meeting your parents right inside, rather than outside the building, is that the enforcement aspect will be taken care of by someone other than you. You can also involve your child in deciding where they are going to meet their grandparents, by giving them two or more options of safe locations, from which they can choose. That way, when you communicate the location of choice, you can explain to your parent that the activity was something your child has specifically asked to do with their grandparent. This can be an effective way of keeping your child away from your parents bad influence, while at the same time, encouraging them to develop a close relationship. How to Set Boundaries When setting boundaries with your parent, start with the most gentle boundary setting, and work up to more assertive and rigid boundaries only if your initial efforts fail. First attempt: Ask your parent not to smoke or drink in front of your child (or in front of you if it bothers you). If your first attempt is successful, and your parent does not smoke or drink in front of you or your child, you dont need to set any further boundaries. Second attempt: If your parent smokes or drinks in front of your child, remind them of your previous request, and say that if they insist on smoking or drinking, you will take your child away from their presence. If you think your parent will react in an explosive manner, you might choose to do this away from your child, so that you dont upset your child, or open yourself up to manipulations from your parent (such as, Look, you are upsetting the children!). Follow up with a frank discussion with your parent, perhaps on the phone, about how important it is to avoid exposing your child to secondhand smoke, or to alcohol, and suggest trying to work out an agreement whereby they can refrain from smoking or drinking during a specified period of time, or in a situation that will allow your parent to take a smoke break away from your child. But remember, third-hand smokeâ€"which refers to the particles and gases that are left over after a cigarette is extinguished and remain on virtually any surface in an area where someone has smokedâ€"also carries risks to your child. Final attempt: If your parent continues to smoke or drink in front of your child, or engages in manipulations to pressurize you into tolerating them smoking or drinking, I would suggest you limit physical contact between your parent and your child. This might seem harsh and may be distressing for both of them, but it sends a clear message about the importance of this issue. What it boils down to is how much your parent values time with their grandchildâ€"if they care about spending time with your child, they will quit or at least restrain their smoking. In spite of what your parent may say, they are fully capable of functioning without smoking or drinking, even if it is for a brief period of time, such as an hour or two, which is typically as long as most young children will want to be engaging in an activity. If your parent is very heavily addicted to nicotine, they can use nicotine replacement during the time they are with your children, such as nicotine gum or a nicotine patch. And if they are unable to function for a short period during the day without alcohol, it is likely that they have a very serious problem with alcohol. A Word From Verywell It can be hard to stand up to your parents. You dont want to embarrass them, nor do you want to provoke an argument, particularly one you cant win. However, it is worth persevering to find a way to bring your parents and children together for the sake of their relationship, without exposing your children to their harmful influence.

The Impact of Climate Change Free Essays

In the last few years there has been a lot of attention given to the problem of climate change. Usually we only hear vague ideas about how the Earth is heating up, how we are all going to die and that we are to blame. However climate change is a natural process that experts have said has been sped up by human activity, for example, industrial activities, vehicles and machines producing gases like carbon dioxide and methane. We will write a custom essay sample on The Impact of Climate Change or any similar topic only for you Order Now These gases are damaging because of how the Sun’s rays heat up the Earth. The rays from the Sun enter the atmosphere, hitting the Earth’s surface with most being reflected back without heating up the Earth at all. The ones that are absorbed by the sea and the ground are reflected back as infrared rays therefore heating up the Earth. However as more CO2 and other â€Å"greenhouse gases† are pumped into the atmosphere, fewer and fewer of the Sun’s rays are reflected away, hence the rising temperatures. Although there is debate over the largest contributor to the climate change problem that is not my focus for this essay. In this essay I intend to show how climate change would affect the world’s water; that is to say 70% of the Earth’s surface. The most talked about point in the media about the effect of climate change on water is the sea level. This is because as the Earth heats up the seas and oceans will absorb a lot of the heat causing the water molecules to expand and the sea level to rise. Another possible factor that contributes to the rising sea levels is the melting of the glaciers, ice shelves and ice sheets and this has another effect. As there is less and less ice to reflect back the sun’s rays as ice reflects back 90% of the light that hits it while water absorbs the same percentage, this speeds up the warming of the earth even more and as more and more ice melts the problem worsens. There are many inter-linking consequences to the rising sea levels and of global warming. Droughts, floods and even the danger of the Gulf Stream, the warm water current that heats up our region, shutting down. The idea of flooding because of rising sea levels is self-explanatory. As there is more water, rivers, lakes and streams could break their banks and flood. The possibility of the Gulf Stream shutting down is more complicated and will have a much more lasting effect. The Gulf Stream works through a mixture of wind, water salinity and temperature, the shape of the ocean floor and the Earth’s rotation. As temperatures continue to fall and more sea ice melts, this adds more fresh water to the Atlantic, reducing the salinity of the water. As there is less dense and less salty water, the Gulf Stream slows down. As it does slow down and weaken it will become more and more unstable and more likely to shut down altogether, lowering temperatures in our region by up to 9oC. Fortunately there are things we can do to help the climate change problem. Saving energy lowers the amount of fossil fuels that are needed to produce that energy and the less coal, oil and gas being burned in power plants, the lower the emissions of carbon dioxide. Saving energy can be a simple matter, such as switching off lights when you leave a room, having showers instead of baths, and turning down central heating systems, even 1oC can save up to 10% on energy bills. One of the most effective ways of helping is properly insulating your home as this reduces the energy needed to heat your home. The second most important greenhouse gas, methane is produced by landfill waste, which comprises 90% of the UK’s sixteen million tonnes of waste each year. If we recycle more and more of this waste then there is less need to mine for raw materials and less methane being produced as there is less landfill waste. Two hundred years ago, if we produced the same amount of carbon dioxide as we did now, it probably would not have had any major effect, as there was not the same level as deforestation. The reason this would have made a difference is because trees take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. Although the effects of climate change won’t be felt for years, we owe it to the future generations to save, if not our planet, our way of life. How to cite The Impact of Climate Change, Papers

Robert Frost Essays (1142 words) - Robert Frost,

Robert Frost Robert Frost takes our imagination to a journey through wintertime with his two poems "Desert Places" and "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening." Frost comes from a New England background and these two poems reflect the beautiful scenery that is present in our part of the country. Even though these poems both have winter settings, they contain very different tones. One has a feeling of depressing loneliness, and the other a feeling of welcome solitude. They show how the same setting can have totally different impacts on a person depending on their mindset at the time. These poems are both made up of simple stanzas and diction, but they are not simple poems. In the poem "Desert Places" the speaker is a man who is traveling through the countryside on a beautiful winter evening. He is completely surrounded with feelings of loneliness. The speaker views a snow-covered field as a desert place. "A blanker whiteness of benighted snow/ With no expression, nothing to express." Whiteness and blankness are two key ideas in this poem. The white symbolizes open and empty spaces. The snow is a white blanket that covers up everything living. The blankness symbolizes the emptiness that the speaker feels. To him there is nothing else around except for the unfeeling snow and his lonely thoughts. The speaker in this poem is jealous of the woods. "The woods around it have it ? it is theirs." The woods symbolize people and society. They have something that belongs to them, something to feel a part of. The woods have its place in nature and it is also a part of a bigger picture. The speaker is so alone inside that he feels that he is not a part of anything. Nature has a way of bringing all of her parts together to act as one. Even the animals are a part of this wintry scene. "All animals are smothered in their lairs, / I am too absent spirited to count." The snow throws its blanket of whiteness over everything, and to him it is a feeling of numbness. "The loneliness includes me unawares." The speaker has lost his enthusiasm for life. He cannot express his feelings easily because of this feeling of numbness. The speaker is also in denial about feeling alone. He is at a stage where he just does not care about too much and he feels a bit paranoid. "They cannot scare me with their empty space." He is saying who cares how I feel; I do not need anyone else. "I have in me so much nearer home/ To scare myself with my own desert places." The speaker was starting to realize that he had shut himself off to the world. He recognized that this winter place was like his life. He had let depression and loneliness creep into his life and totally take over like the snow had crept up on the plain and silently covered it. If he continues to let these feelings run his life, eventually everything would be snuffed out much like the snow does to nature. "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" is a much happier and more upbeat poem than "Desert Places." This poem is about stopping to enjoy life or as the clich? goes, stopping to smell the roses. "But I have promises to keep, / and miles to go before I sleep." The speaker in this poem was a very busy man who always had obligations to fulfill and places to go. A feeling of regret is present. The man would like to stay and enjoy welcome solitude. "The woods are lovely, dark and deep." This poem expresses the joy of nature. The speaker seems concerned about what the rest of society would think about him just stopping in the middle of nowhere for no apparent reason. His horse represents society. "My little horse must think it queer/ To stop without a farmhouse near." He admits that just stopping does seen odd. He is also somewhat concerned about the man who owns the woods. 5 Different Ways to Say To Leave in French

5 Different Ways to Say To Leave in French There are five different French verbs that mean to leave. They are  partir, sen aller, sortir, quitter,  and laisser. These words all have different meanings, so for a non-native speaker, it can be tricky to understand what verb to use in which context.   French Verb Partir Partir means to leave in a general sense. It is the opposite of arriver, which means to arrive.  Partir is an  intransitive verb, meaning it cannot be followed by a direct object; however, it may be followed by a preposition with an indefinite object, which in this case, will normally be the destination or point of departure. Here are some examples using conjugations of the verb  partir: Nous partons jeudi. Were leaving on Thursday.Ils partent de Paris. Theyre leaving (from) Paris.Je suis parti pour le Quà ©bec. I left for Quà ©bec.In addition, partir is a euphemism for death:Mon mari est parti. My husband passed away. French Verb Sen Aller Sen aller is more or less interchangeable with partir  but it has a slightly informal nuance of one  going away/off, such as leaving a job after retiring. It can also mean to retire or to die. Examples using conjugations of sen aller  are below: Ils sen vont Paris.  Theyre going away to ParisJe men vais, salut!  Im off, bye!Va ten!  Go away!  Mon pà ¨re vient de sen aller. My father just retired (or died, depending on the context of the sentence). French Verb Sortir Sortir means to go out, to get out of something, or to get something out. It is the opposite of entrer (to enter) and can be transitive or intransitive. A few examples of the use of  sortir  include: Je sors ce soir.  Im going out tonight.Tu dois sortir de leau.  You have to get out of the water.Nous allons sortir en bicyclette.  Were going out for a bike ride.Il doit sortir la voiture du garage.  He has to get the car out of the garage. French Verb Quitter Quitter means to leave someone or something. It is a transitive verb, meaning that it must be followed by a direct object. It often indicates a prolonged separation, which is illustrated in these examples: Ils quittent la France.  Theyre leaving France.Il quitte sa femme.  Hes leaving his wife. The only exception to the direct object rule is when youre talking on the phone, in which case you might say Ne quittez pas which translates to Dont hang up. French Verb Laisser Laisser means to leave something in the sense of not taking it with/for oneself. This word is also a transitive verb, so similar to with  quitter, you must have a direct object to complete its use. Jai laissà © mon sac chez Luc.  I left my bag at Lucs house.Laissez-moi du gà ¢teau!  Leave me some cake! (Leave some cake for me!) Laisser can also mean to leave someone alone. For example, if someone were to say Laissez-moi tranquille!   it would translate to Leave me alone! or Let me be!

Grande Bretagne Hotel; External business environment

Grande Bretagne Hotel; External business environment Strategic concepts in tourism, hospitality and events Individual assignment: Grande Bretagne Hotel Athens; External business environment INTRODUCTION No company in the world is working standalone and in isolation. That’s even more emphasised in the tourism industry where the location of the tourism companies follows the location of the tourism product, the tourism destination. A hotel can not be located standalone in a no attractive tourism destination and expect success, it should be as close to the epicentre of the tourism happening and movement. The problem is, every tourism company wants that, and they all have to compete in the saturated, consistent market with each other and with the environment like a whole. In this assignment we will discuss the challenges and implications of the external environment applied to our hospitality organisation of a choice based on the selected theoretical model. Further evaluate the competitive environment using the Porter’s Five Forces Model with closing recommendation for the future of the business. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF CHOSEN SUPPLIER For the purpose of this assignment we had chosen the New Hotel Athens. New Hotel Athens (formerly Olympic Palace Hotel), along with 4 other hotels, is a part of Yes Hotels chain, and they are part of the worldwide Design Hotel company with more than 250 independent hotels in over 50 countries worldwide. (http://corporate.designhotels.com/about_design_hotels) Situated in Plaka area in central Athens, New Hotel is a 79 room establishment designed by the Brazilian award winning design duo Fernando and Humberto Campana. The hotel also sports exquisite all-day bar-restaurant, New taste, and Workshop Floor, meeting space with teleconference facilities. IDENTIFICATION OF FACTORS ISSUES IN THE EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT (MACRO ANALYSIS) Business environment refers to those factors of the surrounding of business enterprise which have influence on the functioning of a business. The business cannot control these aspects but can respond to change if needed. This is also call macro environemnt. (http://books.google.gr/books?id=nfADHVmJkTUCpg=PA3dq=external+business+environmenthl=ensa=Xei=jiJvVNnjHJP5asqEgvgLredir_esc=y#v=onepageq=external%20business%20environmentf=true) External business environment Economic conditions Economic conditions are global as well as national, and when there is a global financial crisis as in 2007, and the recent one, changes in the external environment can be dramatic. Positive economic condition of the nation have also positive effect on their spending habits. And opposite, when the nation is suffering financial hardship, the money that will be spent for recreation and holidays will be less. Indirectly, the negative economic condition increase the unemployment rate and the interest rate and taxations. New Hotel Athens, operates within the EU and Greek economic environment. Considering the not so positive economic condition of the country and the Euro zone generally, we can say irrefutable that it reflects negatively on the business. After a calamitous recession in which the economy shrank by 30%, government debt now stands at 174% of GDP and the budget deficit last year was almost 13% of GDP (The Economist 2014). This leaded to aggressive rise of the taxes, increased interest rate for bank loans and credits and overall increase cost of the raw materials and imports. In the table below we can see the country’s economic freedom index and few other economy related facts and figures like, the the freedom of corruption, fiscal freedom, business, labour and trade freedom etc. (The Heritage Foundation 2014) Greece, Economic Freedom index 2014 Source The Heritage Foundation Regardless of the present adverse condition in the country, there is a positive forecast for the future economy of the country from international and domestic experts. High government official also promised a new taxation roadmap that would be unveiled in the future, with the maximum income tax cut to 32 per cent from 42 per cent and the corporate tax rate reduced to 15 per cent from 26 per cent. (ABC News 2014) Market (competition) The market/competition is a constantly amending factor in the external environment of the business. Not only that new competitors arise and other disappear, but also the existing ones are changing and adapting their marketing strategies, product lines and prices. Often those changes are not evident so the businesses must be alerted to what their competitors are doing. Our hotel is one of the 23, exclusive 5 star hotels in the central area of Athens, excluding Piraeus and Glyfada (Greekhotels.com 2014), and one of the 176, 5 star hotels in the country. (Hellenic Chamber of Hotels 2006). In that saturated market are included as well the big international players like Starwood, Intercontinental, Hilton and other hotel chains with great influence on the market and provide fierce competitiveness. But New Hotel Athens diversificate in many ways from the competition, and their business model follows the fresh market trends providing a product for a niche tourism clients. Technology In the last half a century, one of the rapid change factors in the external environment and the constant pusher on the businesses and organisations has been the technological change. If the don’t react sufficiently quick to this change, they can face with the risk of losing market shares. The technological change don’t affects only on the design of the products, but as well on the delivery of service. In the example with our hotel, we must say that this external factor is taken into consideration seriously, and even used for competitive advantage. The property is recently renovated according to the latest standards and trends, with implemented computer controlled in house systems, offering free WiFi to the customers (unlike most of the 5 star hotels), and having great interactive web page and social networks presence. Climate change Climate change is an insidious threat because the pace of change may be recognisable only if considered on a decade-by-decade basis. The effect of climate change will not fall equally on all nations and all businesses. Businesses that depend directly on a good supply of water e.g. agriculture, field sports will be adversely effected if climate change results in reduced rainfall. However the flow on affect of drought will eventually work their way through to all businesses in the affected community. Legal The most common law changes that affect business include Workplace Health and Safety, Consumer Protection, Industrial Relation and Environmental Law. But most obvious change in law through legislation is the taxation. Sometimes the taxation changes occur fast and with little warning and there is not much time for the business to prepare. The New Hotel Athens guests are protected by the general Greek consumer protection law for all transactions you make while travelling in the country. As enterprise, the hotel is obliged to issue written receipts, that safeguards the consumer in the event of any claim or dispute with the enterprises. (VisitGreece 2014) Media The significant changes in the technology and the rise of the internet, reflected on the media as well and changed it from ground up. That affected deeper on the external business environment. The old channel for communication where suffocated, altered and brand new ones appeared. The businesses had to embrace this change and adapt to it as fast as possible. New Hotel Athens following the modern media trends, had build extensive online presence all over the internet (as a medium). And had gained significant positive feedback. For example Trip Advisor, according to the votes by the customers, had awarded this hotel with the â€Å"Travelers Choice Award† for 2014 and had ranked it as number 7 out of 324 hotels in Athens. Except the booking sites, New Hotel Athens heavily uses the social media for promotion and communication with the customers and the public. Political Just like law, changes in the general government policy can be well notified and discussed or changes without notice. Many organisations depends on the government financial assistance and if there is a change in the government policy, those funding can be reduced or to completely disappear. Also any political instability in the country, leads to destabilisation of the society and have repellent effect on the tourism. For example the recent political crisis in Greece and the rise of the radicalism had negative impact on the tourism as a whole. Some of the media even scared out the tourists with warnings of racist attacks (Hamilton Spectator 2012). Or the few cases when the strict immigrants policy mistreated few tourists by the police in Athens (BBC 2013). Demographic The population changes include increasing or decreasing of the population, change in the age group proportion, change in the ethnic diversity, change in the number of two-income families, number of marriages and geographic population distribution. All those changes affects the external environment of a business. Human resources, security and mentality wise. New Hotel Athens operates in quite diversive demographic environment that just adds to the colourfulness of the business. USING THEORETICAL MODELS TO SUPPORT THE DISCUSSION PORTERS 5 FORCES (MICRO ANALYSIS) Porter five forces analysis is a framework to analyze level of competition within an industry and business strategy development. It includes three forces from horizontal competition and two forces from vertical competition. Porter referred to these forces as the micro environment, to contrast it with the more general term macro environment (Porter 1980). The Porter’s Five Forces is a powerful and simple tool for understanding where the power lies in a business situation. Conventionally, the tool is used to identify whether new products, services or businesses have the potential to be profitable. However it can be very illuminating when used to understand the balance of power in other situations. Porter’s 5 Forces (Source Wikimedia) Supplier Power: The bargaining power of suppliers is also described as the market of inputs. Suppliers of components, raw materials, labor, and services to the firm can provide power over the firm when there are few or no substitutes. Suppliers may refuse to provide those supplies to the firm or charge high prices for the unique resources. Potential factors are: Supplier switching costs, supplier concentration, degree of differentiation, substitute, labor unions, supplier competition etc. New Hotel Athens, being part of the YES Hotels chat and part of Design Hotel chain, can maintain wide supply chain due to the dispersed suppliers connection of the sister companies and the mother company. If there is leak of supplies from one source, they can easily switch to other supplier connected to some of the other properties or globally with the mother company, Design Hotel Chain. From FB materials to technology. Though, thats not applicable to the suppliers who provide unique supplies to the hotels. Buyer Power: The bargaining power of customers, is described also as the market of outputs. It is the ability of customers to make a pressure over business, therefore to affects the customers sensitivity to price changes. The companies can take measures to reduce buyer power, such as introducing a loyalty program and promotions. If the buyer have many alternatives then his power is high and opposite. Potential factors for this are: buyer concentration, buyers switching costs, buyer information, substitute products, barganing leverage, buyers price sensitivity etc. Competitive Rivalry: For most of industries the intensity, competitive rivalry is the biggest determinant of the competitiveness of the industry. Potential factors includes: Innovation, advertising, competitive strategies, company concentration, degree of transparency etc. Threat of Substitution: The existence of different products that can satisfy the same need, can make the customers switch to alternatives. Potential factors here includes: the propensity to substitute, price performance of substitute, buyer switching costs, product differentiation, number of substitute products available, ease of substitution, quality depreciation etc. Threat of New Entry: Power is also influence by the ability of companies to enter the market. If it does not cost much time or money to enter the market and compete effectively, if there are few economies of scale in place, or if there is little protection of the key technologies, new competitors can quickly enter the market and weaken the existing business position. The following few factors can affect on how much new entrants can be a threat: existence of barriers to entry, government policy, capital requirements, absolute cost, economies of scale, product differentiation, brand equity, expected retaliation, access to distribution, customer loyalty, industry profitability etc. BASED ON THE ANALYSIS, FEW REALISTIC RECOMMENDATION FOR CHANGE Conducting macro and micro environmental analysis we can come up with some conclusion †¦

If Nas Ruled The World Essay

We have all fantasized about ruling the world In our free time. Whether you ruled wit an Iron fist or gave free Ice cream to your followers, everybody has rules differently. I n the song â€Å"If I Ruled The World† by Nas featuring Lauren Hill, Nas Imagines a world that ca n only be classified as â€Å"ghetto fabulous†. Although this song ideally disagrees with everything believe in, I support Nas idea of unity. The world that NAS speaks of is a place where y o can smoke weed â€Å"in the streets without the cops harassing†, â€Å"court without trial† and people e â€Å"more conscious of the way we raise our daughters†. This may sound like anarchy for the m cost part, but Nas speaks of a place like paradise for some. Nanas, formally known as Nas, was r eased in Queens, New York. This is shown evident from the song alone. Nas speaks of problem s that you would not find many other places other than the slums of New York.In the song he peaks of â€Å"W elfare†, â€Å"weed†, cocaine, â€Å"parole†, undercover cops, and the list continues. These Ideas may seem foreign, but Queens alone feels like a different world from the close by New York City. This is why I like this song. He did not attempt to speak politics or economy values when he showed us a glimpse of his hierarchy but he spoke of a world that Queens k new nothing about. Nanas spoke of a peaceful place. This song was an effective persuasive audio essay because he clearly stated his mall Idea, supported It, and reached the targeted audience.

The Story Of An Hour By Kate Chopin - 852 Words

Kate Chopin’s story â€Å"The Story of an Hour† reflects on gender roles and the love that has faded between married couples. The story introduces the main character Louise Mallard, who has heart disease, who receives dreadful news about Brently Mallard’s death. With her husband dead, she grieves, and shortly after locks herself away to meditate. While she isolates herself, something unexpected begins to rise from the back of her mind, and she finds herself believing that her husband’s death is a good thing. In addition, she reflects on her relationship with her husband and realizes that she was only being shackled by her husband’s will, which does not reflect the characteristics of a grieving person. After succumbing to this realization, she leaves from her isolation to find that her husband is still alive. She then dies shortly after. This analysis will explore why Louise feels the way she does even though she believes the man she married i s dead. Although the way Louise felt was atypical, it should not be a shock that Louise felt the way she did because people more often than not marry more for convenience rather than love. Perhaps a key element to better support this interpretation is the character herself. Chopin describes Louise as â€Å"young with a fair, calm face† (â€Å"The Story of an Hour,† 1894, para. 8) adding in the beginning that she â€Å"was afflicted with heart trouble† (â€Å"The Story of an Hour,† 1894, para. 9). Tips for Applying to Clinical Psychology PhD Programs

Clinical psychology is the most popular and competitive area of study in psychology, and arguably the most competitive of graduate programs in all social and hard sciences. Counseling psychology is a close second. If you hope to study either of these fields you must be on your game. Even the best applicants dont get into all of their top choices and some dont get into any. How do you improve your odds of gaining admission to a graduate program in clinical or counseling psychology? Obtain Excellent GRE Scores This one is a no-brainer. Your scores on the Graduate Record Exam will make or break your doctoral application in competitive fields like clinical and counseling psychology. High GRE scores are important because many clinical and counseling doctoral programs receive hundreds of applications. When a graduate program receives more than 500 applications, the admissions committee looks for ways to weed out applicants. GRE scores are a common way of narrowing the applicant pool. Excellent GRE scores not only gain you admittance to graduate school, but they may also get you funding. For example, applicants with high GRE quantitative scores might be offered teaching assistantships in statistics or a research assistantship with a faculty member. Get Research Experience Applicants to graduate school in clinical and counseling psychology need research experience. Many students believe that applied experience working with people will help their application. They look for internships, practica, and volunteer experiences. Unfortunately applied experience is useful only in small doses. Instead doctoral programs, specifically Ph.D. programs, look for research experience and research experience trumps all other extracurricular activities. Research experience is out of class experience conducting research under the supervision of a faculty member. It usually begins with working on a professors research. Volunteer to help in any way needed. This might include administering surveys, entering data, and looking up research articles. It often also includes tasks like copying and collating papers. Competitive applicants design and carry out independent studies under the supervision of a faculty member. Ideally, some of your research will be presented at undergraduate and regional conferences, and perhaps even published in an undergraduate journal. Understand the Value of Research Experience Research experience shows that you can think like a scientist, problem solve, and understand how to ask and answer scientific questions. Faculty look for students who show a good fit to their research interests, can contribute to their lab, and is competent. Research experience suggests a baseline skill level and is an indicator of your ability to succeed in the program and complete a dissertation. Some applicants gain research experience by earning a masters degree in a research-oriented field such as experimental psychology. This option often appeals to students with little preparation or low-grade point averages as supervised experience with a faculty member highlights your potential to become a researcher. Know the Field Not all clinical and counseling doctoral programs are the same. There are three classes of clinical and counseling doctoral programs: ScientistScientist-practitionerPractitioner-scholar They differ in the relative weight given to training in research and practice. Students in scientist programs earn PhDs and are trained exclusively as scientists; no training is offered in practice. Scientist-practitioner programs train students in both science and practice. Most students earn PhDs and are trained as scientists as well as practitioners and learn to apply scientific approaches and techniques to practice. Practitioner-scholar programs train students to be practitioners rather than researchers. Students earn a PsyD and receive extensive training in therapeutic techniques. Match the Program Know the difference between a Ph.D. and PsyD. Choose the type of program that youd like to attend, whether it emphasizes research, practice, or both. Do your homework. Know each graduate programs training emphases. Admissions committees look for applicants whose interests match their training emphases. Apply to a scientist program and explain that your professional goals lie in private practice and youll receive a rejection letter instantly. Ultimately you cannot control the admission committees decision, but you can choose a program that fits you well, and you present yourself in the best light possible.
